This report examines the challenges in expanding Ireland’s Electricity Transmission System required to meet the target in the National Energy and Climate Action Plan (NECP 2021- 2030) of 70% renewable electricity generation by 2030.  It describes the lessons that can be learned from the experience of Denmark and Germany in dealing with public opposition to new transmission infrastructure.
