The Irish Academy of Engineering (IAE) announced that the recipient of the 2019 Parson’s Medal was awarded for excellence in engineering to Michael McLaughlin the founder, President and chief technical officer of Decawave Ltd.

This is, the only annual medal awarded by the Academy.

The outstanding and incredibly clever work that Michael has done in the past 15 years means that Ireland is seen internationally as the global leader in highly accurate radio positioning technology.

Following this IAE medal award in 2019 the Academy notes the recent article in the Irish Times on 30th January 2020 by reporter Charlie Taylor that “Irish chipmaker Decawave has been acquired by Apple supplier Qorvo in a deal estimated to be worth about $400 million (€363 million).”

Founded in 2007 by Ciarán Connell and Michael McLaughlin, the Dublin-headquartered company provides ultra-wideband wireless technology through a low-power chip that can identify the specific location of any object indoors to within a few centimetres”.

The Academy is delighted to recognise the success by Michael, Ciarán and Decawave.
