The Irish Academy of Engineering continues to provide thought leadership at a time of great change. The publication in November 2025 of the report on Rebalancing Ireland’s Energy policy received widespread media coverage. Between Newstalk/ Pat Kenny / Morning Ireland/ Irish Independent/Farmers Journal and Podcasts the potential audience for the Academy report on Rebalancing Ireland’s Energy policy is c 850,000- quite a reach.
The Academy celebrated the new year with the launch of the new Eastern Region on 8th January 2026. The Academy already has very active Northern, Southern and Western regions and half of the Academy members reside in the eastern region.
The November meeting of the Academy Western Region took place at the PorterShed in Galway on 20th November 2025 followed by lunch in Kirwin’s Lane.
The Irish Academy of Engineering was invited to attend the launch of the Accelerating Infrastructure Report and Action Plan in Government buildings. The stakeholder event was opened by Minister Jack Chambers and Academy President Sean Finlay and Special Advisor Tom Leahy attended the event.
Dervilla Mitchell, with the approval of the Executive, was proposed for membership of Council of the Academy at its meeting on 23rd October 2025

David Porter, Director of Engineering and Transformation at the Department for infrastructure (DfI) for Northern Ireland, was formally appointed as the 161st President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) on 4th November 2025. David is a Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland.
