The Irish Academy of Engineering continues to provide thought leadership at a time of great change. The publication in November 2025 of the report on Rebalancing Ireland’s Energy policy received widespread media coverage. Between Newstalk/ Pat Kenny / Morning Ireland/ Irish Independent/Farmers Journal  and Podcasts the potential audience for the Academy report on Rebalancing Ireland’s Energy policy is c 850,000- quite a reach.

In addition, the publication of the Academy report on Strategic Infrastructure – major project delivery coupled with meeting the Accelerating Infrastructure task force in September 2025 and the joint Oireachtas Committee on Infrastructure and NDP delivery in October 2025 has also attracted significant media interest including the recent renewable Ireland report in the Irish Examiner.

Our thanks go to all our Fellows who contributed to these reports and to Eamonn O’Reilly the chair of our Energy and climate action committee and to Tim Corcoran the chair of our Infrastructure committee.

A new era in delivering essential public infrastructure

The Government on 3rd December 2025 published the  Accelerating Infrastructure – Report and Action Plan , which reflects many of the recent proposals by the Academy, to help drive the efficient delivery of infrastructure across Ireland.

The Action Plan addresses the 12 barriers to infrastructure development that were highlighted in the Report on Stakeholder Consultation and Engagement with Emerging Themes on Infrastructure, published in July.

Thirty specific, time-bound measures have been designed to remove barriers. These actions represent a transformative approach to streamlining development processes and significantly reducing delivery timelines.

The Academy will continue to actively support the delivery of this plan
