Professor Adrian Long OBE FIAE
The Academy notes with great regret and sadness the recent passing of Adrian Long FIAE.
Adrian was a highly distinguished engineer and an early and strong supporter of the Academy. He was widely admired and appreciated for his characteristic warmth and wit. Adrian served for 30 years as the 1849 Professor of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast having been appointed to that role at the age of 35. His key area of research was in the field of concrete structures.
In 2002 Adrian was elected to the Presidency of the Institution of Civil Engineers and in 2006 was awarded an OBE by HM Queen Elizabeth II.
