On Friday 15th October, Tom Leahy, President of the Irish Academy of Engineering (IAE), attended Áras an Uachtaráin for an audience with H.E. President Michael D. Higgins.

Tom attended the event alongside Sir Jim McDonald, President of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE), who visited Ireland for the very first time hosted by the IAE.

Tom Leahy says:

“There are Engineers of all disciplines on this Island and this occasion marks a more intense engagement between both Academies. Both presidents visited the Belfast Enterprise hub together and the NI Advanced composite & Engineering centre (NIACE) and Spirit Aero systems to see first hand how academies can broaden their engagement with industry and innovators from across the island.

The IAE is unique in being an all island Academy. Both the IAE and RAE overlap geographically in the North.”
