On 21st March 2023 President Tom Leahy was invited to attend an event, co-hosted by Queen’s University Belfast, to discuss a recent ESRI/Shared Island report Modelling productivity levels in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
This report examines sectoral productivity differences in Ireland and Northern Ireland. It attempts to understand these differences by identifying the key determinants of productivity in both economies.
Among its key findings, it found that productivity per worker was approximately 40% higher in Ireland compared to Northern Ireland.
This interactive event brought together stakeholders from the two jurisdictions to discuss the report. The event features a presentation of the report’s main findings, a panel response and a Q&A segment.
As our Academy is an all – Island body this report provides invaluable insight on productivity on the Island and feeds into the joint work of the IAE/RAE Memorandum of Understanding to work together over the next 6 years.
