On 5th March Dervilla Mitchell was welcomed by Academy President Seamus McKague, Immediate Past President Tom Leahy and Hon Sec Joe Harford when she delivered a lecture entitled “40 years a growing”.
Dervilla is Deputy Chair of Arup Group and global Ethics Director. Dervilla brought the audience through her early career in UCD and Boston and her amazing career with ARUP. She was a member of the Prime Ministers Council for Science and Technology for the last decade which led her into greater involvement on the Net Zero agenda. She has been active in championing diversity in the construction sector and supported initiatives to encourage young people to consider engineering as a career.
Alongside many awards Dervilla received a CBE for services to engineering and honorary doctorates from UCD and Imperial College London. The well attended lecture was followed by a lively Q&A and a very convivial post lecture reception on Café Clyde.
