We greatly appreciated the site visit hosted by Mick Guinee Ei Electronics Chairman & CEO and his colleagues Mike Keegan, R&D Resource Manager and Peter Murphy, Marketing & CSR Manager who gave a site visit of the very impressive manufacturing facility.
Mick Guinee Ei Electronics Chairman & CEO gave a detailed history of Ei Electronics starting with General Electrics (GE) startup in 1963. Mick explained that in the midst of a severe Irish and worldwide recession in the 1980’s the journey started with a successful management buyout of General Electric’s manufacturing business in Shannon and the creation of Ei Electronics.
Mick gave a deep insight into the ethos and culture of Ei Electronics and the key strategic and long- term decisions, which has made Ei Electronics a world class manufacturer of home based safety solutions. The investment in R&D and sensor- based technology and the drive for innovation, quality and new safety services was very impressive.
Employing over 1250 people worldwide Ei Electronics is headquartered in Shannon where all the manufacturing, R&D and commercial functions are located and are a leader in the manufacture of home life safety devices for the connected home building on it’s foundation of home smoke detectors.
The Western Region and Southern Region held a joint meeting thereafter in the impressive Near Zero Energy Building opened in 2022, which is the corporate headquarters at the heart of the Shannon campus. With an energy efficient building fabric, low energy LED lighting, rainwater harvesting and solar PV it made a valuable contribution to achieving the goal of becoming net zero carbon by 2030.
The joint meeting and was chaired by Brendan Murphy (Southern Region chair) and Padraic O’Donoghue (Western Region chair) and was briefed on Academy work plan 2025 plans by President Seamus McKeague and Past President Tom Leahy showing how the Academy delivers on its mission of providing thought leadership in a time of great change. A very good discussion took place on plans for an active 2025 programme. Our thanks go to Conor McCarthy who arranged the site visit and meeting with VC facilitated by our Administrator Fiona McCarron.
The 2025 regional meetings and events programme is now published and thanks to all for arranging a varied and interesting events and networking programme. Please mark the dates in your regional calendars.
