Academy President Elect Sean Finlay was elected as President of the Academy 2025-2026 and Special Advisor & Past President Tom Leahy was also elected as a Director of the Academy at the Annual General Meeting(AGM) held on 1st May 2025.
President of the Academy Sean Finlay is a graduate in Geology from UCD and holds a Diploma in Project Management for Engineers from TCD. His early career was with Tara Mines Ltd during the discovery and development of a world class zinc and lead mine in Ireland. He went on to found and lead mineral exploration and development companies Celtic Gold plc and Celtic Resources Holding plc with operations in Ireland, Canada and the FSU. He later served as a director of TOBIN Consulting Engineers leading its growth in environmental, geotechnical and planning services for major infrastructure projects. Since 2012, He has been a director of Geoscience Ireland a network of companies and research organisations, focussed on winning international business for its members.
Throughout his career, Sean has been involved with professional and vocational organisations, including the Irish Mining & Quarrying Society and was awarded the President’s Prize of Engineers Ireland for his work on Engineers Ireland Code of Ethics. He has been a Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineers since 2012.
Tom Leahy Academy Special Advisor and immediate past President was also elected as a Director of the Academy and remains as a member of the Executive team and sits on Council.
Outgoing President Seamus McKeague steps into the role of immediate past President and welcomed Sean and Tom to their new roles as well as thanking Joe and Tim for their exceptional service. These appointments were unanimously approved by the AGM.
