ACADEMY NEWS – Academy Executive workshop 16 January 2025
The Irish Academy of Engineering Executive met on 16th January 2025 to review progress during a very busy year in 2024 and plan activity for 2025.

The Executive reviewed how delivered in 2024 compared to 2023? What worked well? Recap on the positive highlights as we look to 2025.
2024 was an important year with significant change being delivered compared to 2023.
2024 Key Academy accomplishments (compared to 2023):
- Academy moved to a sustainable financial footing and a volunteer lead organisation.
- Revised 5-year strategic plan approved by Council
- More active in all 3 regions
- West Region re-established under new chair
- Members of Executive attended in person to all regional meetings
- Deputy Chairs appointed to broaden the leadership team
- Active programme of regional site visits delivered
- 4 major publications delivered
- Regular Executive meetings held with 3 Standing committees and 3 Regional committees and membership committees
- New news bulletins published (15 issued to Fellows and Patrons June to December2024)
- Parsons Medal 2024 awarded to Ann B, Kelleher of Intel with new Parsons committee established
- 9 new Fellows welcomed into the Academy at a special ceremony
- New insurance policy negotiated along with new academy policies
- New Patrons secured (with loss of some patrons)
- Active international outreach with both CAETS and Euro-Case
- Draft agreement to hold joint RAE/IAE 2026 conference in Belfast.
- Active programme of projects with RAE under the RAE/IAE MoU.
- Increase in female membership to reach 2026 target.
- Submission made on new programme for Government
- Commissioned project commenced–IAE Infrastructure Investment Ireland 2025-2040 Report in preparation
- New lapel pins designed and manufactured
- Possible McGill summer school 2025 event involving the Academy under consideration
In summary a lot more activity was achieved in 2024 and plans are being laid to continue this improvement in 2025.
This has happened through the active volunteer support of our Fellows which is greatly appreciated and supported by our Patrons, who’s generosity allows the Academy to deliver on its mandate of delivering thought leadership in a time of great change.
