It is with great sadness that we record the passing of Aonghus O’hEocha, one of the leading consulting engineers of his generation, in his 93rd year.

Aonghus was actively involved in Academy affairs until very recently. He had cheerfully mastered the art of logging into and participating in the virtual meetings necessitated by the pandemic. He was in particular a long-standing stalwart and keen supporter of the Heritage standing committee. Aonghus’s graceful presence and dignified wisdom will be missed by many in that committee and in the wider engineering community.

It seems particularly appropriate for a man as steeped in the Irish language as Aonghus was all his life to offer the traditional prayer on his behalf:

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
